February is ending unseasonably warm and mild, but best not be fooled too much yet into thinking Spring has arrived!
On the other hand…….be prepared! Apiary visits should continue and entrance activity should see pollen being brought back on warmer days. Continue for now checking hives are sound with fondant in place, as it may well be required to avoid starvation. Have supers ready though as when Spring does arrive space will be required. Mouse guards may come off but reduced entrances should be in place while colonies build up. If a warm day arrives later in the month a peak into the hive would be prudent to ensure that the queen is laying okay, but this need only be a brief inspection.
